Looking at the big picture
During my journey through life, I tried to find my purposes and goals in life. As usual, its like looking for the Holy Grail. If you take a step back and look at thing from a different perspective, its like going to a shop and not able to find the things you want, so you move on to another shop. Eventually if you don't know what you want in the find place, no matter how many shop you visited, you still unable to find that thing you wanted so much yet don't know what is it. And then again if you found the thing you wanted like in my case a goal or purpose in life. Suddenly I realised that this is what I wanted but still not there yet. So I asked the shop assistant but then the shop assistant told me about tailor making my thing, so as to better suit me. Then I realised that I've been finding the purposes in my life based on other people standard. None of those suit me! I need to definite my own instead of looking for one. So all this while, the thing I am looking for is just there, in my mind. By defining my own purpose and setting my own goals, it can be more suitable for my style, my personality and my way of life.
Then again, I heard something that totally changed my perception in life. Someone with a higher level of thoughts and wisdom said this 'Whatever we worked hard for today, is for our future. Although we may not feel it now, our future generation will' It made me think about selflessness. No matter how hard I worked now, eventually I won't be able to harvest the fruit; but I know that in the future my children and grandchildren will be able to. We must honour all those that had sweat, bleed and suffered before us. Many had died so that we can walk free and safe. For that I pay my utmost respect. Life is not always about self, for there is always something above self. That is family, community above family, and nation above community. Now I know why everytime I feel emotional when I see people celebrating national day and singing the national anthem. It is because during that time, everyone would put down their petty dispute about the hike in tobacco price and stand together as one nation. A patriot? No, I am just someone that believe in something my teacher once told me, ' You can hate the government, but you cannot hate your country.' Period
